Improving Attention & Concentration with Evidence-Based Strategies

This interactive course takes a deep dive into attention deficits, self-awareness, and the evidence-based strategies to improve these in your patients.

You know your patient with hemiparesis would benefit from mirror therapy and need high repetition of task-specific training...but they can't even focus on their arm for 30 seconds. Where do you go from there?

More about this workshop

Our courses are educational like, MedBridge, with evidence AND shared experiences from OTs to help *apply* the learning in your setting. ✌🏽Here are the course objectives:

  • Learn how to identify what attention deficits look like in your patients.

  • Understand the types of attention and levels of self-awareness to determine when to use metacognitive strategies vs. task-specific training, environmental modifications, and caregiver training.

  • Identify evidence-based interventions for improving attention.

  • Practice using a goal-writing template to show measureable progress of functional cognitive skills.

  • Identify at least 5 new occupation-based activities to improve attention in your setting.

Jessica Miller

Neuro OT, Mentor and Certified Brain Injury Specialist

Jessica loves helping people learn the skills they need to live satisfying lives - both her patients and other OTs. She's been a neuro OT for over 20 years, works hard to stay on top of evidence, and started New to Neuro OT Mentoring in 2022 to support other therapists and rehab clinics in the sometimes incredible and sometimes overwhelming world of neuro. She has also been an adjunct neuro OT professor at Indiana University, guest lecturer at many OT institutions, and is an (almost!) annual presenter at her state OT annual conferences. She knows how hard OTs work and how HARD the work is. You'll find she has a very approachable, practical style of continuing education based both in evidence and experience that leaves you with actual new tools and more confidence in your clinical reasoning.

Yes! This course provides 1.0 hours of continuing education/professional development. 💪🏽

We are an Approved Continuing Education Provider by the Indiana OT Association (IOTA). For American OTs, NBCOT also recognizes all state-approved programs –so you’re covered there, too. We've also had many international OTs successfully use our CEU/PDUs.
